NOTES:

In 1980, the Valley Forge Brewing Co., Restaurant & Microbrewery, located in Wayne, PA, came up with a packaging gimmick; a series of beer cans that depict "Great Moments in Baseball."  Marketed as Casey's Beer, the '4 packs' were distributed in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, just in time for the 1980 World Series. The first set of cans honored Whitey Ford, Monte Irvin, Duke Snider, and Richie Ashburn. Each can in the limited series displayed a full-color reproduction of a painting of the player in action, by sports artist Robert Lowery. Each can includes a facsimile signed story by each player of his great moment, and a short career bio.

Whitey Ford, Pitcher, New York Yankees. " My biggest thrill was the 1961 World Series. In game 1 at Yankee Stadium I pitched a 2-hitter to beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-0. In game 4 at Crosley Field, I won and broke Babe Ruth's 43 year old pitching record of 29 1/3 scoreless World Series innings. That year I also won the Cy Young Award."

Monte Irving, Left Field New York Giants. "The greatest thrill of my career was October 4, 1951 in the World Series against the New York Yankees. In the first game of the series, I stole home and batted 4 for 5. I went on to lead the series with eleven hits. The Yankees won the Championship four games to two."

Duke Snider, Centerfield, Brooklyn Dodgers. "My Greatest thrill was of course, the 1955 World Series against our crosstown rivals the New York Yankees. In game 5 at Yankee Stadium, I hit 2 of my 4 series homeruns. It was a tough series with many great plays. Johnny Padres pitched a 2-0 shutout, and Gil Hodges knocked in 2 runs in the 7th and final game as we won our fistt ever championship 4 games to 3. It was fitting that the final play of the series was made by our team leader and captain Pee Wee Reese."

Richie Ashburn, Centerfield, Philadelphia Phillies. "My greatest moment came on the final day of the 1950 season, October 1 at Ebbets Field. We were tied with the Brooklyn Dodgers 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth and Duke Snider was batting with two men on base. Duke drilled a single straight at me. I ran as fast as I could, caught the ball on one hop and threw a perfect strike to the plate where our catcher, Stan Lopata, tagged the winning run out. In saving the tie, we went on to win in extra innings 4-1, Robin Roberts won his 20th game and we won our first pennant in 35 years."

After the initial four can set was issue, the the Valley Forge Brewing Co. decided to discontinue the series. The company had a brewery in Philadelphia, PA, and Cleveland OH. The restaurant was located in Wayne, PA, and went out of business in 2005.
