Diamond Dust Ballplayer punch Board

NOTES:

Punchboards, AKA; Punch Boards, Novelty Trade Boards, or Salesboards were gambling devices that were used in bars, country and five-and-dime stores. This baseball player themed "DIAMOND DUST" Punchboard features blue-toned portraits of nineteen Payout ballplayers that includes: Mickey Mantle, Al Kaline, Yogi Berra, Herb Score, Duke Snider, Robin Roberts, Billy Martin, Wally Moon, Ken Boyer, Ernie Banks, Harvey Kuenn, Ricky Ashburn, Pete Runnells, Jim Piersall and Frank Thomas.

This punchboard is designed with 600 small paper-filled holes. Customers could pay five cents for a chance to use a metal stylus (or "puncher" witch is found on the back) on hopes of finding one of 19 numbered pieces of paper corresponding to one of the $1.00 monetary prizes listed at the top. There are four sections and the "LAST SALE IN EACH SECTION(4) RECIEVES $1" The operator of the Punchboard takes in $30. and pays out $19. for a $11. profit, minus the cost of the board, about .85 cents.

The back of the punch board has the metal stylus covered by a sticker that reads "FIND YOUR PUNCHER HERE" A Take in and Payout sticker, and a factory stamp featuring manufacture information, Size (number of holes) Color (paper inside) Serial Number, Rate, and Filler. The Diamond Dust Salesboards were advertised by a number of novelty companies throughout the 1930's-1950's, including "The World's Largest Novelty House,"  N. Shure Co. of Chicago. The boards were offered to the "Operators" for about .56 cents in the 1930s-1940's and by 1950 .85 cents.
