In 1968 Ezra Brooks Distilling
Company, Frankfort Kentucky, introduce
their first "specialty bottle," a
Dueling Pistol. Many other figurals
were added during the following years.
It became a growing fad, and
mushroomed into a hobby with
collectors. By 1970 Bottle clubs were
forming across the country. Bottles of
all-sorts were issued in the early
1970s; Mr. Maine Potato, Vermont Skier,
Virginia Cardinal, Washington Killer
Whale... Elks, Chickens, elephants,
sport related issues, and many more.
These ceramic bottles were made in
large molds of plaster in limited
editions and then the molds were
destroyed with no more bottles to be
ever re-issued.
In 1975 Ezra Brooks issued Genuine Heritage China, "Casey At The Bat"
decanters, with either 12 year old, 90
proof, Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Whiskey, or Grenadier California, Cream
Sherry. The character Casey, based on
Ernest Thayer's epic poem "Casey At The
Bat" is wearing a yellow Mudville
uniform. The top section cork is
removed to dispense the liquor. The
seal was located on the back. Under the
base reads "Heritage China © 1973 RH-43
, Ezra Brooks Liquor Bottle 185." The
decanter also came with rarely seen
booklet, which pictures the decanter. A
postcard was also issued.
