Gallagher's Steakhouse restaurant
located in Manhattan's Theater
District, 228 West 52nd Street, NYC,
was founded in 1927 by former Ziegfield
girl Helen Gallagher and the colorful
gambler and sports enthusiast Jack
Solomon. Opened during the days of
Prohibition, Gallagher's was one of the
first speakeasy gathering places for
gamblers, sports figures, and stars of
Broadway. Right from the start it
attracted show biz and sports people
who brought memorabilia to be hung on
the walls.
The menus dated at the
bottom, circa 1960s-1980s, features
black-&-white pictures entertainment,
and sports stars on both sides. Sports
stars include: Joe Lewis, Rocky
Marciano, Eddie "The Knoxville Bear"
Taylor, Sam Snead, Bernie Geoffrion,
Joe Namath, Willis Reed. Baseball Stars
include: Wilbert Robinson, Waite Hoyt,
Hale Chase, Joe Medwick, Ty Cobb, Lefty
Grove, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe
DiMaggio, Casey Stangel, Yogi Berra,
Sandy Koufax, Mickey Mantle.
