Written by David I. Stern, the
original story was conceived by Ray
Negron; best -selling author and NY
Yankees executive producer. At the age
of 17, Negron was caught spraying
graffiti on a wall at Yankee Stadium by
NY Yankees owner, George Steinbrenner.
As fate would have it, Steinbrenner
decided against putting Ray in jail and
instead, offered him a second chance
making him the batboy, and later a
special assistant.
The Story: When Jack is thrown a curve ball at such a young age, a magical
guide names Henry takes him on an
unforgettable adventure. On their
journey, Jack drams come true when he
meet his biggest heroes: the New York
Yankees! Through meeting Yankees
legends of both past & present, he
learns valuable lessons that will give
him the strength to go up to bat
against his greatest battle ever.
The curveball is significant in the story. "Life throws you curves," so
Babe Ruth teaches Jack how to hit a
curveball. Lefty Gomez teaches him how
to throw one. He takes all this wisdom
and used it to help himself cope. The
scared boy goes on a magical journey in
which he meets Yankee greats such as
Babe Ruth (voiced by Chazz Palminteri)
Thurman Munson (Paul Simon) Mickey
Mantle (David Mantle) and Lefty Gomez
(Luis Guzmán). It's a world where he
learns that being a Yankee means more
than hitting homers and where he finds
strength to face adversity.
Other noted voices listed below includes: Serena Girardi, the daughter of
Joe Giardi, as the voice of Little Girl
on Train. Linda Tosetti, granddaughter
of Babe Ruth, as a nurse, and Hank
Steinbrenner doing the voice of George
Steinbrenner. Cyndi Lauper as Nurse
Cyndi; Annie Award nominee for
Outstanding Achievement in Voice Acting
in an Animated Feature Production, and
sings "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"
and her hit "Time After Time".
Alex Rodriguez was cut out of the film,
after his 211 game suspension in
connection with the biogenesis doping
scandal on August 5, 2014. A-Rod was
replaced with Hideki Matsui before the
films Aug. 18 release.
