NOTES:

This Mickey Mantle's Gourmet Dinner menu is from Mickey Mantle's Second annual Ballplayer's Party held at Mantle's Holiday Inn hotel in Joplin, MO, on February 3, 1962. Mickey Mantle's Holiday Inn officially opened on October 23, 1957, in Joplin, Missouri by Mickey Mantle and business partner Harold Youngman. The 8" x 11" bi-fold menu is printed on heavy cream-colored stock, with maroon ink. On the front is an illustration of a batter swinging from the right side, and "Mickey Mantle's, Gourmet Dinner" printed above, with an abstract number 7 shaped background. The back of the menu has a guest list with attendees from a number of ball clubs, listed to the right of each name.

Friends, ballplayers and dignitaries include; Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Youngman, Mickey's business partner listed as N.Y. Yankees Auxiliary, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Maris, Hank Bauer, Clete Boyer, Whitey Herzog, Johnny Sain, Bill Verdon, Dick Williams, and Jack White, New York Yankees (Scouting Director) The only one going stag.

The inside of the bi-fold menu on the left page includes the itinerary for the evening. Cocktails in the "Dugout" between 7:00-7:45, and Dinner was served at 8:00 in the "Oriental Room." Then back to the "Dugout" for the floor show, with entertainment by the vocal group "Somethin' Smith and the Redheads." The right page features the menu, "Le Menu" as it's written in French. Top left reads: "Souper, Dîner de Cérémonial, de Sociéte du Vin et Repàs" (Dinner, Diner of Ceremonial, Society of Wine and Meals) The Top right Reads: "47 couverts à 20 hrs" Pardon my French (47 people at 20 hrs) "Mickey Mantle's Gourmet Dinner Le Menu" is all in French. On the left is the wine list served with each dish, on the right. You just have to wonder if anyone at the dinner knew what was going to be served until it was in front of them.
