The Amazing Mets took on the heavily
favored Baltimore Orioles in the 1969
World Series and defeat the Birds 4
games to 1. To commemorate the New York
Mets first World Championship title in
franchise history, Nestlé issued the
1969 World Series "Amazing Met Moments"
collectors canisters. The back of the 2
lb. cardboard and metal box features a
painting of a Met hero for each game of
the 1969 World Series, along with a
game recap of the players heroics.
Listed below is information for boxes,
games 2 through 4.
World Series 1969 Game 2 - Met
Hero Jerry Koosman Baltimore,
October 12, 1969 - Today the Mets
evened the World Series at a game
apiece. Thanks to the superb two hit
pitching of Jerry Koozman. The 28 year
old left handed pitching ace actually
had a no hitter until the last of the
seventh inning when Paul Blair, the
Orioles centerfielder singled to left
field. The Mets 2-1 win was their first
World Series victory in their very
first World Series.
World Series 1969 Game 3 - Met
Hero Tommie Agee New York
October 14, 1969 - Today's Mets hero,
Tommy Agee, practically won the third
game all by himself. After helping the
Mets of to a three run lead with his
first World Series homerun. Tommy
stopped a potential Oriole rally in the
fourth with an amazing backhand catch
of Elrod Hendrick's hard hit liner.
Three innings later, he saved at least
three runs with another great catch.
Tommy had saved five runs on defense
with his fielding and made one on
offense with his homer as the Mets won
5-0.
World Series 1969 Game 4 - Met
Hero Ron Swoboda New York,
Oct. 15, 1969 - With the help of right
fielder Ron Swoboda, the Mets made it
three in a row today as the beat the
Orioles 2-1 in the tenth inning. One of
the series big guns, average .264 Ron
continued his hard hitting today,
getting 3 hits for 4 at bats. Ron's big
moment came when he saved the game by
shagging Brooks Robinson's hard drive
to right field.
World Series 1969 Game 5 - (Information
will be added when it becomes
available.)
