This Pete Rose shirt was made available through a 1977 Pepsi-Cola
"Baseball Stars/Collectors Series"
promotion. The offer appeared on the
back of MSA Advertising Discs,
specially made into Pepsi carton
inserts. The MSA collectors Discs were
manufactured by Gugler Lithograph Co.
for Mike Schechter Associates, Inc. In
1977 MSA issued customized baseball
discs as advertising for a number of
large & local companies.
The Disc was attached to the baseball glove portion of a
checklist, which was made to be
removed and collected. The T-Shirt
offer is on the back of the Pepsi-Cola
collectors disc with the Pete rose
shirt used as an example. The order
form is on the carton insert portion,
on the back of the checklist. The
Personalized Superstar Shirt was
available with a picture and
"signature" of your choice of 4
players: Pete Rose, Rico Carty, Joe
Morgan, and Rick Manning. The
personalized salutation on the shirt
below the players image would read; "To
my buddy (personalized name) Best
Wishes Pete Rose (signature)" (or the
player of your choice)
A $5.95 value, the shirt was offered for; $3.85 plus 20 Pepsi-Cola bottle
cap liners, $2.85 plus 80 capliners, or
Free with 240 capliners. The offer
expired on October 15, 1977 so you had
to drink a lot of soda to get a free
shirt. The shirts were available in
Children's sizes 6-8 to 18, and
Adult's S,M,L, XL.
