By 1975, the growing restaurant
community in the "Queen City" already
hosted Ted Kluszewski's Steak House,
and Johnny Bench's Home Plate. But
Cincinnati still had an apatite for
"Pete Rose's Restaurant" at 3360
Westbourne Drive. Rose visited the
establishment two or three times a week
when the Reds were in town.
The young waitresses wore red skirts, baseball caps and white baseball
uniform tops, all bearing Rose's No.
14. Even the cooks wore baseball garb
and work in a kitchen that resembles a
dugout. Names of dishes on the menu
included "Head First Slide" (fried
fish), and "Grand Slam" (turkey, ham,
tomatoes, bacon and cheese sauce on
toast). A second Cincinnati eatery,
"Pete Rose Champion Restaurant," held a
Grand Opening Weekend, May 5th to May
7th, 1978 at 155 Northland Blvd.
The 10 by 14 inch, red and black print, paper placemat features a baseball
diamond in the center, with a
proportionately short outfield and fan
filled bleachers. The left depicts Rose
in a Cincinnati Reds number 14 uniform,
on one knee. To the right reads "Pete
Rose's, 3360 Westbourne Drive, (Across
From The Western Bowl), Breakfast 7
A.M. - Open Fri. & Sat. - 24 HRS."
Below that reads "Ask For Your Souvenir
Copy" - "© Hoffmaster Co., Inc."
In 1975 the Cincinnati Reds won the National League Pennant, and played
the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.
Pete Rose's Restaurant announced it
would be open until 1:30 A.M. during
the World Series and on the menu was a
new Special Sandwich the "Boston
Smasher" The Reds went on to "smash"
the Red Sox four games to three, to win
the championship.
