Located on 23 Chestnut Street in
Cooperstown, New York, Sherry's Famous
Restaurant was a five minute walk to
the Baseball Hall Of Fame and Museum.
(Schneider's Bakery is there now)
Cooperstown's three-block-long Main
Street features a flagpole planted
literally in its middle, and a traffic
light down at the west end, right
outside Sherry’s Famous Restaurant.
Sherry’s and the Hall of Fame anchor
the ends of Main Street; the shops in
between not only make Cooperstown a
microcosm of small-town America but
also pay homage to its baseball
heritage. Sherry's Famous Restaurant
closed in the late 1990s after more
than half a century of business.
The Sherry's Famous Restaurant "Home of Fine Food" paper placemat,
depicts four sketches of "Cooperstown
Home of Baseball" landmarks. The
Farmer's Museum, Cooperstown Lake Front
& Park, Doubleday Field, and Baseball
Hall of Fame and Museum. Paper
placemats were used by restaurants to
keep their patrons entertained,
educated, and amused while they were
waiting for their meals to be served.
They were meant to be used once and
discarded, making most a rare
commodity.
