The
American Nut & Chocolate Co. of Boston,
introduced the “Double Play” line of
candy in 1946. Up until 1950 Each .05
cent box of candy came with a 1-1/8"
diameter metal pin, and a 4" mini
pennant representing one of the sixteen
major league baseball clubs. The
box also came with redemption cards
with special offers.
The first set of premium pennants featured a set of 22 white 1.75" x 4"
pennants that featured red-line
drawings of individual National League
players, with the American League done
in blue-line. To the right of each
player was a facsimile autograph, all
for .50˘ and 2 redemption cards.
In 1948-49 American Chocolate offered 4"x 9" Baseball Pennants, your
choice of any major league team (Boston
Brave pictured above) for .10˘ each
plus 5 redemption cards. The
offer expired 10/31/49. In 1949-50
American Nut & Chocolate offered 2
Large 4"x9" felt pennants of the new
1949 champions (Yankees & Dodgers) for
.10˘ each plus 5 redemption
cards. The offer expired 2/28/50.
