Over
the years, the New York Yankees hosted
a number SGA - Stadium Give Away promotions.
The most popular Bat
Day. Others include; Ball Day, Cap Day,
T-Shirt Day, Helmet Day, Tote Bag Day,
Jacket Day, Photo Album, Day Bobble Head
Day.... the list goes on. April 13,
1975, the Yankees held a Shea Stadium
Pennant Day give away. A double header
played against the Detroit Tigers. 1977
issues in the marketing power of
Stadium Give Away promotions, such as
the "Bat Day" baseball bats sponsored
by Burger King.
The following year, on April 16, 1978, the Yankees celebrated the teams first World Series
title in 15
years and gave
away Pennants
that commemorated the 1977 Championship.
These "Pennant Day" picture pennants
are listed as a "Steak & Brew Burger"
promotion but feature the Burger King
logo on them, and picture the 1977
Yankees. On May 13, 1979 the Yankees
gave away another picture pennant
sponsored by Burger King, commemorating
both the 1977, and 1978 World Series
Championships. These pennants picture
the 1978 Yankees.
In 1980 the Yankees held a Pennant Weekend promotion. This SGA was
sponsored by Pepsi and was given away
on Pennant Night April 26, and Pennant
Day, April 27th. The pennant features a
1980 team picture taken while the
Yankees were in spring trading, as
evident by the players pictured. Eric
Soderholm, 1980 his only year
with the Yankees, and Garry Smith a
spring training invitee that never made
it to the Majors.
