In 1963 Post Cereals gave away one
Major League Team Pennant as a premium
inside specially marked boxes. The back of the
boxes featured the 1963 Post Cereal
baseball cards, and when you went
digging through the box you found a cloth mini
pennant! As advertised on the box there
were "One of 19 different team pennants
in each" post cereal package. The
Pennants were also made available in
packages of 10, for the retail price of
.49 cents. One package all American
League pennants and the other all
National.
Post also offered 10 Free Major League Pennants when you mailed in two
Sugar Coated Corn Flakes boxtops for
each set of pennants. The back of the
Cereal box has five 1963 Post baseball
cards which were to be hand cut from
the box. A Boston Red Sox Pennant is
pictured and below it is the mail-in
order form. to the left reads: "Get
both American and National League teams
- 10 pennants in each set. Stick them
on clothing, hats, books, mirrors, etc.
Pennants can be removed when laundering
clothing and reapplied 10 to 20 times.
Use order form and indicate Set(s) A ir
B." It then Notes *EXCEPT HOUSTON"
The Colt .45s were omitted from the National league team pennants that
included 9 teams, as listed on the back
of the card; the Braves,
Cardinals, Cubs, Dodgers, Giants, Mets,
Phillies, Pirates, Reds, and a National
League pennant. The 10 American League
Teams included the Angels, Athletics,
Indians, Orioles, Red Sox, Senators,
Tigers, Twins, White Sox, and the
Yankees.
The pennants that came in a bag
of 10 attached to a vending card, are made of sturdy cotton
with a strong adhesive backing. They
measure about 1.75" along the spine and
about 3.5" across, and have a peel away
adhesive back with
instructions that reads; "1.
Bend back corner. 2. Peel off paper. 3.
Attach to any clean, dry surface
-including cloth-ing. 4. Pennant can be
re-applied several times. CAUTION ! Do
not laun-der or dry-clean."
