This full size felt souvenir pennant
features the misspelling of Yankies [sic]
Yankees. The rarity of this error
pennant might mean that they never made
it out of the factory and into the
ballpark. It is not known if there was
a corrected versions of the design
pictured above. There was a pennant
issued around the time the Yankees went
on the run of 5 consecutive
Championships, 1949-1953, that features
"New York" in Old English font, like
the one pictured here. The pennant is
not dated but features the Yankees Top
Hat logo which was first used in 1947. I would
roughly date this pennant
to about 1949-1953. There is a
corrected version of the "Yankies"
error pennant pictured below that
was sold in the 1940's.
The graphic illustration on the left of pennant pictured above features a
runner sliding into home plate, the
catcher about to catch the ball, and
the umpire waiting to make the call. To
the right reads "New York" in Old
English font, above the misspelled
"YANKIES" with a ball & bat below. The
error pennant pictured below features a
graphic illustration of a coach yelling
from the steps of the dugout, above the
words "NEW YORK" with the Misspelled
"YANKIES" below. To the far right a
batter that just hit a ball. The
corrected Pennant has an estimated
value of about $150.-$200.
