NOTES:

During the 1950s through to the 1970s, Coca-Cola sponsored a series of sports training films featuring famous coaches. Local Coca-Cola distributers were encouraged to buy the training films and lend out to high school and junior high teams or other interested parties.

The 16mm films were produced by Borden Productions Inc. Richard Borden, a wildlife photographer had a long affiliate with Disney Studios. Borden's nature work led to commissions to produce films for several baseball teams; the Red Sox, Kansas City Athletics, and Detroit Tigers. He also shot several official World Series films.

Each sports film has approximately 10-14 minutes of run time which titles include: "Basketball Defense," - "Basketball Team Offense" with Coach Frank McGuire (1957) - The 4th in the series; "The Running Back" with coach Bud Wilkinson; - "Football Throwing On The Run;" - "Interior line play," - The 10th in the series; "Fast Break" with Fred Taylor(1961); - the 11th in the series; "Tackling" with coach Darrell Royal (1961); - the 16th in the series "Sprinter" with coach Ed Temple (1963); the 20th in the series "Back Field Ball Handling" with coach Darrell Royal.

Baseball related: "Batting and Bunting," and the 12th in the series; "Pitching" with Yale Coach Ethan Allen (1962 Youtube Video below) Ethan Allen, a Major League ballplayer from the 1920s to the 1930s, also designed the All Star Baseball game, manufactured by Cadaco Inc., in 1941. "Hitting a Baseball" with Ted Williams (1965). The Red Sox batting instructor at the time, Williams gives tips on selecting a bat, grip, stance, position in the batter's box, hand and wrist action, timing, pivoting, and reflexes. The film also shows Williams at the peak of his playing career.
