targeting youngsters by offering
premium gifts. To Join the Huskies
Club, you had to send one blue Huskies

Huskies Club, c/o General Foods, Battle
Creek, Michigan. You would then receive
a bronze Huskies Club membership pin,
and a Huskies Club color fold out
catalog describing all the 41 free

Lou Gehrig signed on with General
foods in 1937, and became the President
of the Huskies Club, heading an elite
group of American athlete endorsements
that included baseball stars; Frankie
Frisch, Charlie Grimm, Monte Pearson, Elden Auker, Bill Terry, Tony Lazari,
and Jake Powell. The newspaper ad also
gave you a choice to get a free Huskies
Club 24-carat gold finish ring, for
three Huskie box-tops. The ring has the
same discus thrower design in the face,
and the side bands show a baseball,
bat, boxing gloves, football, tennis
racket, and 3 balls.
