In 1928 boys between the ages of 11
and 16 years of age were given the opportunity
to signed up for the Y.M.C.A., knot
hole gang.
Any boy of these ages in Minneapolis
was eligible for membership in the gang
weather he belongs to the Y.M.C.A. or
not. The schedule that year, took the
boys to the games every Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday that the
Minneapolis Millers were at home during
the summer vacation. The boys were
expected to register on Saturday June,
2, 1928, in the districts in which they
live.
Each year from about 1921 to at
least into the 1940s, the
Y.M.C.A gave a pin like this, to boys that
signed-up for a membership in the knot
hole gang. The back of the inch and a
half diameter Celluloid pinback button
features an inserted paper 1928 schedule to
the Minneapolis Millers games, in which the
boys were going to.
Hall Of
Famer Zack Wheat played for the minor
league Minneapolis Millers of the
American Association in 1928, before
retiring the following year.
