NOTES:

1967 USO Shows Major League Baseball Roundup Tour Flyer In Association with the Commissioner of Baseball. The flyer picturing the baseball stars fashioned in a baseball diamond include;  New York Yankees, PR Director Bob Fischel, Joe DiMaggio "The Yankee Clipper," and Jerry Coleman, Cincinnati Reds Pete Rose, and Boston Red Sox Tony Conigliario. The bottom of the flyer that measures 8 1/2" x 11" features the Yankees, Red Sox and Reds logos with printed text just below that reads: "USO-OSU #GA-375 Vietnam and Thailand, 1 November 1967 17 days."

The 5 ballplayers traveled to Saigon and met up on the Intrepid in Tonkin Bay, for the 17 day, Vietnam tour. Ernie Banks and Lefty Gomez also joined the tour that sometimes split up into groups. The MLB players conducted a handshake tour. In his book Tony C, Tony Conigliario, talks about the effect the tour had on him, giving details of the battles, body bags and American soldiers, many younger than him, injured in battle. One asked from his hospital bed, 'Hey, Tony how your eye?'

Pete Rose spent some time with Joe DiMaggio in the jungle and the two traveled together by helicopter. According to Pete Rose, they had to carry cards identifying themselves as colonels, because if they were captured and didn't have the ID cards, they'd be considered spies.
