These large two sided aisle marker
signs were used at the 1986, Seventh National
Baseball Card & Sports Collectors
Convention, to help visitors find their
way around. Numbered in intervals of 100,
seven, six foot by four foot
signs, 100-700, were made to be hung
from the rafters at the Arlington
Convention Center, in Dallas-Fort
Worth, TX. The markers that feature
two grommets at the top, were secured to long red white and
blue banners that hung from the ceiling.
The 7/16" white Styrofoam core board features signage printed in Navy Blue
and Red. A six-inch border surrounds
the enclosed rectangle that
features a blue ink bust-illustration
artwork of
Mickey Mantle in pinstripes, wearing a
Yankees baseball cap, in the likeness
of his 1963 Topps baseball card. Below
with white lettering on a blue background
reads;
"SEVENTH, NATIONAL" in large font,
below in smaller lettering "BASEBALL
CARD & SPORTS COLLECTORS CONVENTION" to
the right is the circled aisle number
printed in Red (100-700).
The huge piece of two sided working art, retired after the 1986 National,
showcases a large "Best Wishes Mickey
Mantle" autograph on both sides. Mantle
had to get down on the floor to sign
them, at the house of Wanda Marcus, the
promoter of the 1986 and 1990 National
Sports Conventions. The aisle markers
come from the estate of Wanda Marcus, a
pioneer show promoter and innovator in
the autographed sports memorabilia
industry. There were only 7 aisle
markers made. Two were ruined in
storage, two are staying in the
personal collections of Wanda Marcus'
family, and three are hitting the
market through Leyland's Auction house.
A lot of 20 Mickey Mantle signed items from the Wanda Marcus collection
which also includes the three Aisle
Markers pictured below, 100, 200, and
300, are currently being auctioned off
at Leland's
