NOTES:

The Western League of Professional Baseball Clubs, also called the Western League, was a minor league baseball league that operated from 1885-1899. The original teams, in 1885 were located in Indianapolis‚ Kansas City‚ Cleveland‚ Milwaukee‚ Toledo and Omaha/Keokuk, Iowa. The league had a number of failures. The first reform, was in 1886, and after partially playing the 1888 season, ceased operations in 1889. The teams scheduled to play in the 1889 Western League were the; Denver Grizzlies/Mountaineers, Des Moines Prohibitionists, Milwaukee Brewers/Creams , Minneapolis Millers, Omaha Omahogs/Lambs, Sioux City Corn Huskers, St. Joseph Clay Eaters, and St. Paul Apostles.

The league was reformed again for the 1892 and 1893 seasons before folding temporarily again on June 20, 1893. Ban Johnson who was elected as league President in 1893, reorganized the league, and in 1900, the name was changed to the American League. Johnson would remain as league President until his retirement nearly 35 years later. In 1901 the American League joined the National League to form the Major Leagues we know today.

Both the Major League of baseball (National League), and the Western Association games, are printed in this 1889 schedule, sponsored by the Chicago Daily News. "The Daily Schedule of League Games of Base Ball season 1889," started on April 24, and runs through October 5. The Daily Schedule of the Western Association Games, for the 1889 season, started on April 20, and runs through September 30, but none of the games were played.
