The April 12, 1964 Sunday New York News
Coloroto Magazine, a newspaper insert of the
Sunday Daily News, pictures Yogi Berra
on the cover. The centerfold 'poster'
features a full color illustration of
Ernest L. Thayer'sf "Casey at the Bat"
by News staff artist Steven R Kidd. The
first printing of the artwork appeared
in the April 21, 1957 issue of the
Coloroto magazine, and has a 1957
copyright. Mr. Kidd's original "Casey"
hangs in the Baseball Hall of Fame in
Cooperstown. The Daily News
traditionally printed the "Casey at the
Bat" poem for many years to introduced
every new baseball season.
Steven R Kidd's version of "Casey at the Bat" was featured again as a News
Syndicate Print in 1959, 1961, and
1964, and the tradition was
reestablished in the April 2, 1989
"Baseball Book '89" magazine. The
covers and centerfold are pictured
below.
