"Lucky to Be a Yankee" By Joe
DiMaggio was published by Rudoplh Field
(Greenberg) in 1946. Introduction by
James A. Farley. Foreword by
sportswriter Grantland Rice. The book
is a running account of Joe's boyhood
and his ventures in major league
baseball; with anecdotes about many of
the sports leading figures, and advice
by Joe himself on how to hold a bat,
hit a ball, and covering the outfield
positions.
In 1949, Bantam Books published "Lucky To Be A Yankee" by Joe DiMaggio in
paperback, with cover illustration by
Hy Rubin showing "Joltin’ Joe’s"
classic swing. Grosset & Dunlop
published the book in 1951 for their
Big League Baseball Library series of
books. The plain hardcover book simply
featured The Big League Baseball
Library logo, but came with a just
jacket with the Hy Rubin illustration
of DiMaggio swing a bat, with a yellow
background.
The book was again published in 1957, with additional information, but
without a dust jacket, and with the
same Hy Rubin illustration of DiMaggio
printed directly onto the hardcover.
(as seen above) The added content,
"DiMaggio's Records" pages 218- 221,
mentions his induction to The Baseball
Hall Of Fame in 1955.
