Happy Felton's Knot Hole Gang was a
TV show that aired on WOR-TV Channel 9,
in the New York area. The show preceded every
Brooklyn Dodger
home game from 1950 to 1957, the last
season before the Dodgers moved to Los
Angeles in 1958. Felton gave a group of
3 sandlot players, of the same age,
same position and from 3 different
Baseball programs a chance to work out
with a Dodger player. They would go
through "tryouts," perform drills like
the pro's. Then, the Dodger running the
drills, would pick one of the kids who
did the best.
All the boys received the same prizes - bats, balls and cap, but the kid
named the best got an autographed ball
designating him the best of the day. In
addition, the winner would have an
opportunity to meet the player of his
choice the next game and hang out in
the dugout with the team.
In 1954 Happy Felton's Knot Hole Gang was sponsored by the Savings Banks
of Brooklyn, such as, Green Point,
Williamsburg, and Mutual Savings bank.
The 1954, Happy Felton's Knot Hole Gang
Baseball Guide; was edited by the
Sporting News published by Charles C.
Spink and Son, St. Louis, Missouri. The
52 page booklet features profiles on
Walter Alston, Pee Wee Reese; 1954
