The March 20, 1953 cover of New
York regional TV Guide, features
"Lucy's Neighbors Exposed," Picturing
Fred and Ethel Mertz. The back pictures
Joe DiMaggio's head on an illustrated
pinstripe uniform, leaning on a bat. It
lists Channel 4's, Sunday morning line
up; "The Children's Hour" 10:30-11:30,
"Magic Clown" 11:30-11:45, and "Joe
DiMaggio Club" 11:45-12:00.
DiMaggio already signed to do commentary on Yankee games in April of 1952,
on channel 11, signed on for a 15
minute series on NBC called "Joe
DiMaggio's Dugout." The show sponsored
by Buirtoni Macaroni, aired on Sundays
from 11:45 AM to 12 noon, teaching
fundamentals of the game to youngsters.
In 1953, DiMaggio joined the staff of Buitoni Foods Corp. as vice
president in charge of public relations
for the company's West Coast market.
DiMaggio, who was a major stockholder
of the company continued his television
show, now called the "Joe DiMaggio
Club."
The Joe DiMaggio Club with Bob Russell, was televised from NBC's Hudson
theatre, 144 West 44th street New York.
One noted show, that aired on Sunday,
September 27 featured Ted Williams.
Mickey Mantle was also slotted to guest
on the show but there were no reports
that Mantle showed up. On October 4,
twenty-five Little Leaguers from Mount
Vernon were on the show, when Joe's
guest was Yankee infielder Jerry
Coleman, who recently returned to the
club after service as a pilot in Korea.
