The Rollin Wilson Toy Co. was founded
by Rollin V. Wilson in 1929 at 1213
Empire Avenue, Memphis Tennessee.
Wilson, was once an efficiency expert
at lumber mills. He noticed that the
mills produced a lot of waste lumber,
and came up with an idea of converting
it into toys. Rollin Wilson Co. was a
unique operation and a pioneer in its
field. It manufactures toy bow and
arrow sets, mounted on display cards:
baseball and golf sets, and other toy,
merchandise sold primarily to the
Woolworth, Kress and other variety
store chains.
The Sport toys manufacturer started the business, using hickory, persimmon
and gum, in the making of small bows
and arrows; tennis, badminton
equipment, and small wooden novelty
toys. Wilson produced 22.5 inch toy
baseball bats starting in the 1950s.
Mickey Mantle signed on with Rollin
Wilson after his Triple Crown season in
1956.
The Rollin Wilson Sport Toys trade catalog was issued during the 1957 trade show,
200 fifth Avenue New York, N.Y. "The
Toy Center of the World" The back cover
features the Mickey Mantle No. 60
Baseball Set, and the No. 65 Baseball
Set.
