Roger Maris Hit 61 home runs but
isn't in the Hall Of Fame.
Valentino the Beanie Baby Is. Ty,
Valentino was given away on Beanie
Babies Day, May 17 1998. The stuffed
teddy bear and 10,000 recipients saw
David wells pitched his Perfect game,
and is snuggled up
next to David Wells' glove at the
Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Sponsored by Häagen-Dazs,
Valentino came with serial numbered
card commemorating the game it was
handed out, "Sunday, May 17, 1998, New
York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins, 1:35
P.M."
The heart shaped swing tag was encased in a plastic case, and it seems
that only the Yankee Stadium Valentino
giveaway has this. All others in the
market, without the encasement were
likely sold for retail. This, a 5th
generation Valentino, has the ORIGINAL
spelled as "ORIIGINAL" error, on the
front, and the misspelling "suface" instead of "surface"
on the back.
These are common errors made on early
5th generation bears, not rare, and
will not have added value. Many
collectors are over-paying. There were
too many made like this. Inside the
swing-tag is a poem that reads: "His
heart is red and full of love, He cares
for you so give him a hug, Keep him
close when feeling blue, Feel the love
he has for you !
The spelling errors for 5th generation bears were eventually corrected, and before it was, Ty
placed a sticker on the back of the
swing tags with the correct spelling
"Surface Wash." Other variations on
non-Yankee Valentino beanie babies
might include; Tush tag: Extra space between "HANDMADE" and "IN,"
Tush Tag reads P.V.C. Pellets. "P015
5TX" Has no UK after it, and brown
nose
with black eyes. (They were all made
this way) Bears featuring the 'old'
face-style with a more elongated mug
are more rare and do/should have added value.
With that said there were a number of
common Valentino beanie babies that sold
for $25,000. to $50,000. because they
were listed as having "Rare Errors"
Bears with the same errors are
currently selling from $15.-$200. on
ebay.
