Each year from 1919 to 1931, with the
exception of 1928, the New York Giants
issued Sterling Silver passes to select
dignitaries and season ticket holders.
The passes manufactured by Lambert
Bros. of New York, were designed in a
variety of shapes and baseball motifs.
The charm or locket like medallions
entitles the bearer admission to every
New York Giants home game played at the
Polo Grounds during that particular
season.
This 1930 New York Giants Sterling Silver Season Pass features Charles
Dana Gibson's "Two Strikes." LIFE
magazine illustrator Charles Dana
Gibson, creator of the "Gibson Girl,"
made famous a pair of baseball
caricatures titled "Two Strikes" and
"Fanned Out." Giants owner Charles A
Stoneham used them for the New York
Giants 1930 and 1931 season passes. The
back of the
pass indicates that it was issued to
Sportswriter "Fred J. Bendel."
Bendel was the first sportswriter to go
on air with a nightly broadcast, over
WOR, Newark, starting in 1922. Under
the name is engraved “702"
(section or seating) The makers mark at
the bottom reads "LAMBERT BROS, NY,
STERLING."
