On July 2, 1941; Yankees home game No. 35,
Joe DiMaggio extended his consecutive
game hitting streak to 45 games,
breaking Willie Keeler's long standing
record of 44, set in 1897. Willie
Keeler's record 45 consecutive game hitting
streak started in his final game of the
1896 season, and continued through the
first 44 games of the 1897 season. The
day before, on July 1, a make up game
was added to the scheduled home game
no. 34, to create a double header. A
reported 52,832 fans packed Yankee
Stadium for the opportunity to watch
history in the making, to see if
DiMaggio would continue the streak, and
tie Keeler's record.
The July 2, record breaking game, only drew 8,682 fans, making the Game
No. 35 ticket stub scarcer than the
rarely seen game No. 34 stub, and more
valuable. The game No. 35 ticket also
ties Keeler's record 45 consecutive
game hitting streak that he
accomplished over two seasons. Value is
based on past auctions and sales. There
is only a small sample of sales
history, which estimates the value of
the game No. 34 ticket at about $1,000.
There is no sales data available at
this time, for the July 2,
1941, game No. 35 ticket stub.
Given that the game No. 35 ticket is a record breaker, and far more scarce
than game No. 34 stub, I have estimated
the value at $1,000.-$1,500. in
excellent - near mint condition, but
would most likely sell at a higher
value. Grandstand, and Bleacher ticket
stubs historically sell at a lower
value because these tickets were
printed without the date. A
recent and extensive study on these
undated
ticket stubs, should help gain
collectors trust, and this trend should end.
The Grandstand and Bleacher ticket
stubs can now be accurately dated.
The 1941 Yankees Grandstand ticket stubs have the Signature of Yankees
team President, Edward G. Barrow at the
bottom, have an admission price of
$1.10, and can be identified by the
Series letter "J" below the red serial
number. The same goes for the 1941
Bleacher stub, but with a .55 cents
admission price. Visit
the New York Yankees
Grandstand &
Bleacher Ticket Stub Dating Guide for
more information or the
1941 Yankees Home Game Schedule for
milestone games.
