This is a 1953 New York Giants vs.
Brooklyn Dodgers opening day full
ticket scheduled to be played on April
16, at the Polo Grounds. In general
full tickets for the regular season from this
era are valued at about $50.00-$65.00.
A ticket will increase in value if it
can be attributed to a game played that
featured a significant event, or player
milestone. A hitting or pitching
milestone by a noted player such as a
Home Run by Willie Mays, or a shutout
thrown by Hoyt Wilhelm. Opening Day,
Game 1 tickets are desired by
collectors and do carry a premium.
However this game scheduled to be played on April 16, was rained out. When
a game is rained out the tickets with
that game No. is voided and the Rain
Check is to be presented at the ticket
widow in exchange for a future game of
your choice. As it reads on the back of
the ticket:
"In the event that 4 1/2 innings
are not played, this coupon will be
good for any subsequent game during the
season, and may be exchanged at the Box
office for this priced ticket........NO
MONEY REFUNDED"
Most of the time a "Make Up Game" is added to another scheduled game and
played as a double header. The ticket
to that scheduled game is used for
admittance to both games. If the make
up game is rescheduled and played on an
off day, a ticket that featured a
Letter as the Game No. is used. These
tickets were printed before the season
started, for use when needed.
In this case the Rain out game scheduled for April 16, (opening day) was
added to Home Game No. 2, scheduled for
April 17, and played as a single
admission double header. The Game 2
ticket was used for admittance to both
games. See schedule below. (just as a
side note: scheduled home games No. 3,
April 18 and No. 4 April 19 were rained
out as well.) This Full ticket was
bought in advanced, and the owner of
the ticket decided not to turn it in
for a future game.
