This ticket is so rare that the Value
is based on ticket sales that were
fraudulently dated with a Red Rubber
stamp. One such ticket stamped with
the date, Sept. 20, 1968, Game No. 60,
sold for $1,200. (the Series "A" Ticket
is actually from 1967) First, the
Yankees did not stamp the date on
Grandstand or Bleacher ticket stubs. I
assure you, the ticket sellers did not
stamp 15,737 tickets, the Paid
attendance for that game. Second, Game
No. 60, as the $1,200. fraudulent
ticket is from was played on Aug. 4.
Mickey Mantle Hit his last Home Run on
Sept. 20. To put it in perspective,
Game 77 was played on Sept. 19, so the
game No. 60 ticket is off by 1 year, 17
games.
If you
search for a Sept. 20, 1968 Mickey
Mantle Last Career Home Run 536 Last
Career RBI 1,509 ticket Stub, you will
not find a dated ticket. Here is why.
It doesn't exist....
Game No. 57, scheduled to be played on
July 24, 1968, vs Boston was rained
out. The Game was rescheduled for Sept.
20, 1968, an off day. When a game is
rained out the Rain Check for that game
No. is voided and is to be presented at
the ticket widow in exchange for a
future game of your choice. Most of the
time a "Make Up Game" is added to
another scheduled game and played as a
double header. The scheduled game No.
is used for admittance to both games.
Since 1923 when a Rainout Game is
rescheduled on an off day the Yankees
used a ticket that featured a Letter as
the Game No. (these tickets were
printed before the season started, for
use when needed) Sept. 20 being an off
day, Game No. "P" was designated for
this game. This was the only game in
1968 made up on an off day.
The ticket stub above was Photoshopped to look nice on the website, but there
is one on ebay at a great price. Check
it out. (pictured Below) So Rare it might be the only
Real one you
will ever see.
