The 1976 American League Championship
Series (ALCS) featured the New York Yankees,
defeating the Kansas City Royals, three
games to two in the best of five
series. Games one and two were played
at the Kansas City Royals, Kauffman
Stadium, and Games three through five
were played at Yankee Stadium. This was
the first trip to the post season for
the 1976 Western Division champion
Kansas City Royals, and the first trip
to the post season for the Eastern
Division champion New York Yankees
since 1964.
The big ticket to this series was Game 5, played at Yankee Stadium. With
both teams fighting to take home the AL
Pennant, the game was tied 6-6 heading
to the bottom of the 9th. Chris
Chambliss leading off the inning hit a
dramatic game winning walk-off home
run, giving the Yankees' their first
pennant in 12 years.
