The 1977 American League Championship
Series (ALCS) featured the New York Yankees,
defeating the Kansas City Royals, three
games to two in the best of five
series. This was a rematch from the
previous year but with Kansas City
having home field advantage. Games one and two were played
at Yankee
Stadium, and Games three through five
were played at Kauffman Stadium.
In game 5, played at Kauffman Stadium, the Royals took a 3-2 lead into the
9th inning. The Yankees came back with
3 runs in the top of the 9th, and held
on for their 31st American League
pennant. The Yankees then went on to
defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the
1977 World Series for the teams
twenty-first championship title.
