August 5, 1984 was "Lou Piniella Day"
at Yankees Stadium. The Yankees honored
"Sweet Lou," one of the most popular
players to wear pinstripes during his
10 plus years with the Yankees.
Piniella retired on June 16, to become
the Yankees fulltime batting coach. The
crowed of 30,231 witnessed a 30 minute
pre-game ceremony, and a touching
speech from Lou-u-u-u. Piniella thanked
his family, teammates, and Yankee Fans,
after being showered with gifts.
Among the gifts were; a satellite dish two trips to Hawwii, one to
Acapulco, Tokyo or Hong Kong, two cars,
two miniature horses, a battered water
cooler and a light fixture to represent
the many times Piniella's temper got
the best of him, two color televisions,
a stereo, VCR, a lifetime pass to
Burger King, a gold watch from
Anheuser-Busch, Inc., a personally
installed Coca-Cola dispenser, $500.
worth of free gas, a sailboard,
Krugerrands and a set of golf cubs.
The season box seat tickets, for all 81 home games cost $675.00 (per seat)
The back of the tickets featured a WABC
Talk Radio, 77AM advertisement.
