This New York Yankees home Game
No. 81 Full Bleacher ticket is
attributed to September 25, 1968, Mickey Mantle's Last Yankee
Stadium game, and Last Career Hit #2415.
None of the 5,723 fans in attendance
knew it was going to be the last time
they saw Mickey Mantle, so there was no
"Good-Bye" ceremony. Mantle did not
announce his retirement from the game
until spring training the following
year. "The Mick" went 1 for 3, with his
last career walk and a strikeout. Luis Tiant held the New
York Yankees to one hit, the
first-inning single by Mickey Mantle,
and pitched a complete game Shutout,
winning his 21st game of the season,
3-0. Tiant struck out 11, and set the
Cleveland Indians all time single
season team record for lowest ERA, .160.
The record still holds today.
The Yankees Undated .75 cents; Beige Bleacher tickets can be positively
identified to 1968 by the Series Letter
"C" the Game No. in black, and the Blue
Yankees logo. Tickets printed from 1966
to 1968 are unique having "St. & City
Tax" listed in the Tax Line. The ticket
features the signature of Michael
Burke, who began his tenure in 1967. In
1969 the Yankees first use a Lower case
letter (a) for the series letter.
Tickets that have punch holes are
complimentary tickets, place there
by the Yankees to prevent the
person that it was issued to in
receiving a refund.
A Game No. 81, Lower Stands Reserve full Complimentary ticket that sold
for
$2,572.50 by Goldin Auctions was
used for a fan request, and mailed out
by the Yankees for the fan to use in
his "Album." The ticket also featured
the two holes punched out separated by
the same distance. Full Bleacher
tickets are extremely rare because they
are only sold at the stadium 2 hours
before game time. They couldn't be
purchased in advance.
