Making baseballs since 1902, Russian
Immigrant Meyer Tober was a co-founder
of Bon-Tober Sporting Goods in 1912.
From their factory located in Hartford
CT. the company manufactured leather
sporting goods that included;
baseballs, baseball gloves, footballs,
playground balls, basket balls, boxing
gloves and punching bags, and later
added a line of baseball bats.. In
1927, the company was purchased and
operated by the McKinnon Dash Co. of
Buffalo, New York. (McKinnon was a
manufacture of dashboards for horse
drawn buggies and carriages dating back
to 1878.) For a short transition period
products were sold with the Bon-Tober/McKinnon
brand name.
After 1930 McKinnon Dash began producing a complete line of leather
sporting goods, under the "McKinnon"
brand name. After the McKinnon buyout,
Meyer Tober formed the Tober Baseball
Manufacturing Co. in Manchester,
manufacturing Eagle brand baseballs and
softballs. Needing more space the
company relocated to Rockville CT, in
1955.
The Bon-Tober Sporting Goods Co. baseball bat center brand
used before 1930; features the
Bon-Tober crossed bats "TRADE" "MARK"
baseball logo centered by "B-T" At the

At the age of 82, founder and President of the Tober Baseball
Manufacturing Co. Meyer Tober, was shot
& murdered by employee Adino Ryes in
1964. The day before the shooting Tober
had been talking to Ryes who had been
considering committing suicide because
of family problems. Tober had tried to
talk him out of it, and urged Ryes to
see a doctor. The company continued to
operate until 1970 when a factory fire
might have closed them down. The Tober
family was committed to getting the
factory up and running, but there is no
news about the company thereafter.
