Brothers, Arthur, Maurice, and Louis
Melamed, founded the Minneapolis, based
Coast to Coast hardware store chain in
1928. By the 1950's the chain grew to
1,200 stores in 26 states, from Ohio to
California. In 1990, Servistar
purchased Coast to Coast, and by 1997
merged with True Value, and did
business under the True Value name.
All the stores had a set layout, 12 departments, with inventory such as;
housewares, gifts, appliances, auto
supplies, electrical plumbing, garden
supplies, paint, toys, and sporting
goods which included baseball gloves,
and bats. Based on the block letter
player endorsements, and models, it is
apparent that Hillerich & Bradsby,
Louisville Slugger, manufactured the
Coast to Coast store brand baseball
bats.
Using player endorsement to date
the bats, the two different center brand
logos seem to have the same timeline.
