The Knox-All Junior League "High
Quality Bats" were an inexpensive line
baseball bats offered by the Sears &
Roebuck Co. in the late 1920's-1930's.
To put it in perspective the Louisville
Slugger bats in the Sears catalog sold
for $1.60, The top of the line JC
Higgins brand of baseball bats sold for
.93 Cents, and the Knox-All Junior
League bat .33 cents. Baseball bats
made in 1926 and before had catalog
numbers in the 1600's. The Junior
League model was designated with the
1624 catalog number. Baseball bats made
in 1927, and after used the model
numbers in the 1700's. The Junior
League model was then designated with
the catalog No. 1715.
From 1908 until 1961 Sears, Roebuck &
Company sold a wide variety of sporting
goods, under the brand name "J. C.
Higgins." John Higgins was the manager
of the headquarters' office
bookkeepers. John Higgins consented to
Sears use of his name for a new line of
sporting goods. Since he did not have a
middle initial, Sears added the "C."
J.C. Higgins was the Sears brand of
baseball bats that were made by "The
maker of the famous Louisville Slugger
Bats."
In 1923, Sears, Roebuck and Co. decided to start up a radio station to
address and target the lucrative
farming market. The Radio Station used
the logo with the Electric Bolt "WLS"
lettering, which stood for 'World's
Largest Store.' Baseball bats used to
promote the radio station were
produced, and sold, with with the "WLS"
center brand. In a 1927 catalog the No.
1715 Junior League baseball bat was
sold with the "WLS" branding. Sears
sold the WLS radio station in 1928. By
that time they most likely ceased to
produce the WLS baseball bats but
continued to make a line of the same
baseball bats under "Knox-All brand
name.
the No. 1708 baseball bat with a Mushroom style knob was also produced
with the Kox-All branding, and also
shows up with the "WLS" center brand in
1927, advertised as being "Similar in
size and balance to the bat used by
Roger Hornsby."
