NOTES:

Clayton E. McQueen was the proprietor of a woodworking plant in Belmont, NY from 1927-1961. Select timber made into billets, four inches square, and 42 inches long, would then be turned into baseball bats that would find their way into the hands of baseball greats such as; Lou Gehrig, Jimmie, Foxx, Hank Greenberg, and many others. Following the preliminary process the billets were shipped to the Kren Bat Company factory in Syracuse, where they were allowed to season several months without being kiln dried. Baseball Bats for Major League ballplayers were made to order, according to weight, length etc. Then a finish is applied.

Limited facilities at McQueen's four-man wood-working plant prevented the owners from accepting larger order, but in 1938 the plant did turn out 75,000 bats. The bats that were turned for Major League players were ordered through Joseph G. Kren in Syracuse. A large portion Kren's stock came from McQueen's plant in Belmont. The plant also produced thousands of McQueen Bats for wholesalers. The elongated octagon center brand features crossed bats in the center with the model number to the left, right and top. Above the crossed bats reads "McQueen Bats," below "Belmont NY." Models include: No. 50 A, No. 50 B, No. 48 A, No. 36 A, and No. 20 A. They also produced Little League, and softball bats.

In September of 1961 Clayton E. McQueen passed away at the age of 78. By November the workshop and all it's belongings; machines, automatic baseball bat and variety lathe, table saw, baseball bats, wood stock and tools were sold off by his surviving wife.
