The 250 catalog designation was
applied to the line of bats offered by
Louisville Slugger that for a time, was
their highest priced bat. Selling for
more money than the pro model 40, and
125 signature series baseball bats. In
1924, the No. 250 listed for a retail price
of $2.50, while the No.'s 40, and 125 sold for
a price of $2.00. The bat was
manufactured from the highest grade of
wood, consistent in regards to length,
weight and model of a bat that would be
used at the major league level. The 250
model has been documented to have been
used by some Professional ballplayers.
According to Louisville Slugger records
a model 250 was sent to Babe Ruth in
1920.
In 1931 the patent for the "Powerized" process was granted and beginning
in 1935 the "Powerized" stamping
is used by itself. The word Genuine
first appears on the barrel, above the
players name in 1932. The signature
model bats, 40, and 125 have "REG. U.S.
PAT. OFF" below the signature. This 250
Mickey Cochrane has an odd stamping
that reads "REG-SW - 2354" I also found
one other 250 bat from this time
period, endorsed by Rogers Hornsby that
has "REG-SW - 2064" below the
signature.
