Winfield was a line of Juvenile, toy and discount store quality baseball
equipment carried by the
"Five-and-Dimes" variety store F. W.
Woolworth Company. The in-store brand
seems to have been taken from the
founder, Frank Winfield Woolworth's
middle name. The Winfield wooden
baseball bats were part of a "Junior
Baseball Set" that also included a
baseball & glove. The bats range in
size from about 22" to 30," in length.
The longer bats might have been sold
separately. Bat models include W291
Winner, and W214A Wonder Bat.
The Winfield brand developed into a
larger line of sporting goods that was
also sold by Woolco, a subsidiary of
the F. W. Woolworth Company, which was
founded in 1962. The Winfield line of
sporting goods carried by Woolco
included; tennis rackets & balls,
Soccer balls, bicycle accessories,
badminton, dartboard sets, table tennis
sets, binoculars, jump ropes, boxing
gloves sports shoes, and baseball
equipment. The Woolco company closed
it's U.S. stores in 1983, while the
parent company F.W. Woolworth, closed
in 1997.
