NOTES:

This is a prototype used to produce the mold for the 1961-1963 Mickey Mantle White Base bobbing head doll. After the two piece mold is put together it is filled with a paper mâché slurry or "slip." The manufacturer then lets the mold sit for a predetermined amount of time and then empties the mold. This time is needed to allow the paper mâché slip to get attached to the walls of the mold, as the plaster draws the water out of the paper mâché slurry. Then the part is allowed to dry out. Afterwards it is sanded and cleaned before painting.

The 1961-1963 White Base series of baseball bobbing head dolls were the first comprehensive series of major league baseball bobbing heads. They originally sold for $1.00 each! It included examples from 20 different franchises with several significant variations. The series included nine dolls featuring mascot heads. Also lumped into this series were four dolls of actual players. Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. facsimile autograph decal on base. Comes with square or round white base (round base has a different body type).
