Endorsed
by Lou Gehrig in 1934, Goudey created
the Knot Hole League Of America, a new collecting
club that rewarded members that saved
Big League wrappers with "New Free
Baseball Premiums." All you had to do
was send in twenty
Big League wrappers,
with 3¢ in stamps, and you became a
member. Goudey sent you; one
Knot Hole
membership card, one Knot Hole Badge
(for your coat or shirt) and one Big
League Premium book. The kit also
included this Knot Hole League fold-out
brochure.
The double parallel tri-fold brochure features 3 panels on the outside,
measuring 6.25" x 10" when open. When
folded the front panel shows the Lou
Gehrig Knot Hole League Of America
emblem which reads "This Emblem Is The
Pride And Joy which Of Every Real
American Boy" at the top, and
headquarters address at the bottom. The
back panel instructs boys to save
wrappers of Big League, and Sports
Kings chewing gum, and to refer to the
opposite side for instructions on how,
and where to send the wrappers. The
panel folded-in, shows pictures of Lou
Gehrig, President of the Knot Hole
League.
Printed on the other three panels on the opposite fold, is a certificate
outlining the Club's goals and
benefits. Starting with a short note,
facsimile signed by the League
President Lou Gehrig, the certificate
lists the benefits, which includes;
"11. Under certain conditions any
member can have his photo taken with
Lou Gehrig," and "12. All members
entitled to valuable premiums (see
other side)"
The other side which opens up to 10" x 12.5" pictures some of the Free Premiums you
could get with Big League, and Sports
Kings wrappers. Premiums include;
No.'s 1-4 photographic type (R309-1)
pictures of Babe Ruth, American &
National League All-Stars, or World
Series Champs, 25 wrappers each; No.'s
5-7 Baseball gloves, tanging from 150
to 350 wrappers; No. 9, a Knot Hole
League, Home run special baseball, 100
