These die-cut display cards
were issued to sporting
good dealers
by the "Spalding Sales Team" to help promote athletic
equipment endorsed by the players
depicted on the cards. Each card
in the set of 31 pictures members of
the Spalding Advisory Staff team from
three different sports; 21 baseball, 7
football, and 3 basketball players.
Spalding Advisory Staff members
assist in the design and development of
Spalding products. Spalding issued
Advisory Staff photos from the
1950's to the 1970's in which dealers
would distribute to their costumers.
These photos were also used on the display cards.
The
football cards read; "Kick Off with,"
the basketball cards read "Score High
with, and the baseball cards read "Play
Ball with, all followed by the players
facsimile autograph at the top. Printed
on baseball 'card-like' paper in either green,
black & white, or Orange, black & white,
the bottom reads "Spalding 'Football, Basketball or
Baseball' Equipment" according to the
players respective sport, followed by a
"PA Professionally Approved" logo. The far right
features a black & white
portrait of the player.
The back of the cards have a double
stick peel off adhesive strip made by
Kleen-Stik. The cards came
in a brown leather Sales Team portfolio box which
features the
facsimile autographs of each player
represented in this set. Football and
Basketball printed on one side of the
cover, baseball on the other.
