NOTES:

The MacGregor-Goldsmith No. 285 Magnesium frame catchers mask was introduced in 1948. It was advertised as to being 30% lighter than high grade wire masks. The scientific design and position of the bars, allows for perfect vision. The extended chin allows face to move into the mask providing better side to side vision and at the same time giving better protection to the wearer. Angular broken line chin reduces possibility of direct flat blows. Extended frame allows for additional padding at the chin.

The cloth patch on this mask dates to 1945 to 1952. In 1945 Goldsmith added the MacGregor name to their products and became known as "MacGregor-Goldsmith" then in 1952 the Goldsmith name was dropped entirely and the company was simply called MacGregor. The padding was attached to the frame using laces. By 1957 manufactures started to use snaps to attach the the padding.
