entertainment 8MM film from the movie
"Safe At Home," a 1962 Columbia
Pictures release starring; Mickey
Mantle, Roger Maris, William Frawley,
Patricia Barry, and Don Collier. The
movie also feature cameos by Yankees
Mgr. Ralph Houk, Whitey Ford and
others. Mickey Mantle's young son David
plays one of the Little Leaguers who
winds up meeting the baseball legends.
(David Mantle's movie credits also
include the voice over for Mickey
Mantle in the 2014 animated movie
"Henry & Me")
This full length 8MM home movie, is a silent edition of the black & white
film, "Safe At Home." The front of the
green box pictures a black & white
picture of Mickey Mantle, and Roger
Maris back to back in a batting stance,
at the Yankees spring training camp
in Florida where the movie was filmed. The back
features an ad for other home movies
that reads; "Now from the studios of
Columbia pictures right into your
home!, All these great series for
family film fun - from Hollywood in
8MM!" Five of the film stars that
were available are listed across the
bottom; "The Three Stooges, Li'l Abner,
Sports Shorts, Scrappy, Fox and
Crow."
The 8MM home movie came in two sizes, with one box measuring 3.25" x
3.25," and the other 5.25 x 5.25." Both
are a silent edition. A renewed 1990
full-length film with sound was also
released in the VHS format. In 1996 the
VHS movie was released again with a
different box which shows an image of
Maris, Mantle and Russell gripping a
baseball bat. At the bottom of the
photo were the words “Get Ready for
Grand Slam Fun!”
