In March 1957 Mission Soda Of
California signed Mickey Mantle as it's
press agent during the winter months.
Mantle promoted their Orange Soda in
1957 and 1958 through newspaper ads.
The first promotion in April of 1957,
an "Opening Day" at Yankee Stadium
newspaper ad, which featured a 16 page
full color comic book called
"My Greatest Thrills in Baseball" By
Mickey Mantle, Free, with Mission
Beverages.
In September of 1957, Mission Soda offered an "Autographed" picture of
Mickey Mantle for 6 bottle caps from
Mission Beverages. Consumers were
instructed to: "Fill out coupon in
bottle in carry-carry home carton of
Mission Beverages and mail with 6
bottle caps, to Mission, box 678, New
Haven, Conn."
The thin paper, 5" x 7-7/8" B&W premium photo features a portrait of a
smiling Mickey Mantle with a "Best
Wishes" salutation and a facsimile
signature. The same photo was used for
the 1954
Dan Dee Potato chips & 1955 Stahl-Meyer
Franks baseball cards and the picture
that came with "Mickey Mantles Big
League Baseball" board game.
