NOTES:

This original artwork by V. Wellls, portrait of Don Mattingly was used in the process of creating the 1989 Yankees team checklist Upper Deck card number 693. Artist Vernon Wells Jr., the father of Major League ballplayer Vernon Wells III, was Commissioned to do artwork for the 1989 Upper Deck team Checklists. This particular piece was not used for the actual card but used for "specs" that he would run by Upper Deck. The same pose was used for the card but not this particular piece.

Since then V.Wells Art has evolved to Rockwell-esk stature, and is now the leading Sports artist of all time. He has been commissioned by over 1,000 athletes. His paintings can be found in homes of rookies and Hall of Famers alike, media guide covers, posters and lithographs. Wells did the cover artwork for the 11th Annual National Sports Collectors Convention's Official Program which featured his son, 11 year old Vernon Wells, future All Star of the Toronto Blue Jays.
