Known as "The National" AKA NSCC, the
National Sports Collectors Convention
is the largest, annual sports trade
show held in the United States. This 66
page Official Program was from the 11th
Annual National Sports Collectors
Convention held from July 4 - 8, 1990,
at the Arlington Convention Center, in
Arlington Texas.
The cover art for this Official program
was done by artist Vernon Wells Jr.,
the father of Major League ballplayer
Vernon Wells III. The
artist V. Wells was commissioned
to do the cover by promoters John &
Wanda Marcus, who also ran the 7th
annual National held in Arlington Texas
in 1986. Wanda worked with Wells in
designing the cover, and had Vernon
feature friends and family in his cover
art.
Wanda's grandchild, who is on the
floor crying, is at the feet of the 11
year old Vernon Wells, future All Star
of the Toronto Blue Jays. Dressed in a
little league baseball uniform with the
green Jersey, Vernon who also played 2
years with the LA Dodger, and one year
with the NY Yankees, is hauling away a
signed Rutgers football, and a Bo
Jackson autographed Rawlings Big Stick baseball
bat.
Vernon (the artist known as “V”) Wells, has become the leading Sports
artist of all time. He has been
commissioned by over 1,000 athletes.
His paintings can be found in homes of
rookies and Hall of Famers alike, Media
guide covers, posters and lithographs.
Even the original cards of Upper Deck
featured his work.

National were baseball Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Leo
Durocher, Duke Snider and Stan Musial,
Boston pitcher Roger Clemens, several
Texas Rangers players, boxing great Muhammed All and football stars Gayle
