The Krey
Meat Products, 20 pin baseball team
logo set promotion card features pins
made by Advertising Premium Sales, also located in
St. Louis MO. The 7/8 inch buttons were
originally made for a Frito-Lay,
Rold
Gold Pretzels promotion, and ADV who
made 2.5 million of these pins between
1967 and 1968 also made them available to
the Krey Meat packing co. Founded by
John Krey, the Krey Packing Co., was
established in 1882 in St. Louis,
Missouri. The Krey packing plant closed
in 1978.
The "Krey Quality Meat products"
promotion pin card features the 1967
pins shrink wrapped onto the card. The
pins feature the "ADV Premium Sales St.
Louis MO" manufactures credit line
along the rim. Ten pins were made for
each of the existing National League
teams and ten pins for the existing
American League teams. Official Team
logos were used but the 1968 pins
featured on the Rold Gold promotion
below have the Oakland A's button when
the team moved from Kansas City after
the 1967 season. The Philadelphia
Phillies button was made in error, with
the spelling "Philadelpia" and was not
corrected.
The front of the pin card reads
"'Baseball Special' See Offer on Back
for Rawlings Official Little League
Baseball" The back of the card features
the Rawlings trademark logo, and calls
attention "Hey Ball Players"
The promotion goes on to
offer a Rawlings Little League
baseball by using the order blank at
the bottom. The Rawlings baseball was
"Yours for only $1.50
with any Krey Label" A "Retail Value
$2.50"
Because the buttons do not have any indication that they were made for
either Krey Meats or the Rold Gold
Pretzels promotions, the pins are
difficult to locate. Most of the pins
are not listed as being associated with
either promotion. The best way to
locate the pins online is by doing a
search for "ADV Premium Sales St. Louis
MO pin" The 7/8 inch pins can then be
matched up with the buttons pictured on
the promotions.
