In a 2000 Nabisco promotion,
participants that entered the Oreo
Stacking Contest could win a trip to
the 2000 World Series, Meet Derek Jeter
or Ken Griffey Jr. at the National
Finals, a $20,000 U.S. Savings Bond,
and "Other Cool Prizes." Every child
who participates in stacking received
two collectible
Fleer-Oreo Derek Jeter,
and Ken Griffey Jr. baseball cards.
More than 30,000 local store winners
(one winner per age category/per store)
received a Certificate of Merit and an
official
Rawlings Oreo Major League
baseball.
The 11-by-14 inch thin cardboard stock store sign shown here (originally 11"x17") is missing a
3 inch flap at the top, printed in the
opposite direction. It has information
on "Stack to Win Grand Prizes," and
"How to Enter," Identical to the
tear-off "How to Enter" cards at the
bottom. he sign pictures a 25 year old
Derek Jeter, stacking Oreo Cookies.
Children 5 to 12 years of age competed
in one of two categories: 5 to
8-years-old and 9 to 12-years-old.
Regional competitions at Major League
baseball stadiums determined the
finalists who represented their region
- North, South, West and Central. The
parks included Turner field, home of
the Braves; Dodger Stadium, home to the
LA Dodgers; Cub's Wrigley Field; and
Philly's hometown Veterans Stadium.
The top two stackers in each age category that emerge victorious from each
region advanced to the national finals
where they competed for the title of
Oreo stacking champion. The national
finals were held at the site of game
two or game three of the Major League
Baseball's 2000 World Series.
The grand prize winner in each age
category, the one who can vertically
stack the most Oreo cookies in 30
seconds - without using any props, glue
or other adhesives and without having
the stack fall over. The stack needed
to remain standing for three seconds
after the 30-second limit. The grand
prize was a $20,000 U.S. savings bond,
two season tickets to their local Major
League baseball team and a year's
supply of Oreo cookies.
The promotion was also advertised on
packages of Oreo Cookies, with "5 Cool
Baseball Shapes" Imprinted on each
cookie. A baseball diamond, Batter
swinging, baseball glove, batting
helmet, and a baseball. More than
750,000 Children participated in the
contest. David Thomas 8 stacked 17
Oreos to win the 6-to-8 year old group,
and Ben Montmagny 10 stacked 19 Oreos
to win the 9-to-12 year old group.
